Thursday, February 25-Behind the Clouds

Welcome back, astronomers. Look out for the moon tonight behind all those clouds. Even look tomorrow morning to see if you can see it. Or is the moon only out at night?

Tonight, please record your normal observations but in addition I want you to check out the tab, "Moon Resources" that is next to the "Home" tab.  Go to the first website listed, the TimeandDate.com  There it will have a chart that shows the moon rise and moon set times.  Can you figure out what that means? What times should we be able to see the moon tonight if it wasn't so cloudy?

  1. I looked for the moon at 6:33 but I didn't it. It's still to cloudy. Behind those clouds I think there is a waning gibbous because on Monday the moon was full and a full moon can't get bigger.

    2. Excellent job looking at the table, Lexi! Great question about the timing. Maybe if it's clear tomorrow we can see the moon in the morning.

  3. Tonight at 6:15 I looked outside and sadly, there was no moon. Just like the last two nights. The clouds were blocking the moon and it was drizzling. I wonder if at 8:39 I will see the moon if the clouds go away?

    1. Good job finding what time we should be able to see the moon, if there were no clouds. According to that table will the moon be out tomorrow morning?

    1. Hi Kevin, what time did you look? Check my instructions for tonight and do the research as to why you couldn't see the moon, even without the clouds.

    1. Is it only because it's cloudy? Check my instructions for tonight's blog post and do some research to see if there's another reason why you couldn't see the moon at 7:40.

  10. I looked for the moon at 7:20 and I didn't see it because it was cloudy. I think it would be a waning crescent. The moon rises at 8:39 and sets at 7:59.

    1. Good job finding out when the moon rises! So when you looked for the moon at 7:20, was the only reason you didn't see it because of the clouds?

    2. I looked at the moon at 10:26 pm and I finally saw it. Last night I looked to early and didn't see the moon. Tonight I looked at a better time and saw the moon. It is a Waning Gibbous. I think tomarrow will be another Waning Gibbous because it has been 4 days in a row.

  11. I looked outside at 8:35pm and saw no moon because of the clouds. Then, I read that the moon rises at 8:39pm so at 8:40pm I looked outside but like I thought, no moon in sight just clouds. I wonder when the weather would stop being cloudy.

  13. This morning at 9:08 I saw a Waning Gibbous it was small and you could not really see it. It was shining bright. I think tomorrows moon will look like a half moon.
